Initiative: "Window on Ecology".
Originator: Marta Poremba and Przemysław Januszewski
Location: Primary School in Jastrzębik, Muszyna Municipality
Implementation date: 08/2015-10/2015
Description of the problem encountered: The material for the construction of the Primary School in Jastrzębik was sourced from two Lemko houses. High running costs were the reason for taking measures to increase the energy efficiency of the building. The most urgent need was to replace the window frames, entrance doors and consequently make the educational building more comfortable to use.
Activities:
- purchase and installation of 17 windows and entrance doors;
- purchase of a recycling bin
- Conducting educational activities on energy efficiency for 4 classes;
- Art competition for pupils "how do I reduce my impact on the climate";
- Preparation and printing of 4 educational charts for children (on energy saving, water saving, waste segregation, renewable energy sources);
- purchase of educational kits on green energy
Results: The initiative's activities will improve learning conditions, reduce space heating costs, reduce energy consumption. Within the framework of the project, educational activities will be carried out on energy and water saving, waste segregation and renewable energy sources. Children will assemble educational models. Educational charts will be made. In addition, containers for waste segregation will be purchased.
The "Window on Ecology" initiative, the brainchild of Marta Poremba and Przemysław Januszewski, was implemented as part of the project "Local ecological civic initiatives - together for the environment" of the Foundation for the Development of Polish Agriculture and funded by the National Fund for Environmental Protection and Water Management.
RESULTS OF PROJECT IMPLEMENTATION
As part of the "Window on the Environment" project, 17 windows and external doors were replaced at Jarzębik Primary School. The investment reduced energy consumption and thus bills. Learning conditions have improved.
In addition, a number of educational activities were carried out for pupils at Jastrzębik Primary School.
Thematic workshops were organised:
"What is energy?"
"Water - a priceless treasure"
"Segregation of rubbish"
"Ecology at school and at home"
Specially prepared educational boards were used as teaching tools. Educational models for self-assembly were also purchased, including an eco-clock, a small wind turbine, a weather station, an eco-battery, solar energy and a robot.
