Initiative: "At PSP 26 we save energy and therefore have a green planet".
Originator: Barbara Żelazowska
Location: Public Primary School No. 26 in Radom
Implementation date: 09/2015-08/2016

Description of the encountered problem: The school building has not been renovated for the last several years. The lighting lamps located in the corridors and toilets were outdated and generated high electricity expenses. There is a large green area around the school (about 25,000 m2) and a mini park with a variety of plants and tree species that needs to be cleaned up.Lighting before replacement

Activities:
- replacement of 62 lamps in the corridors;
- replacement of contacts and switches;
- Purchase of seeds (melliferous and indigenous plants) and seedlings of vegetables and herbs;
- Creation of a teaching garden;
- production of 15 nameplates with information on the species of tree;
- acquisition of new tree and shrub seedlings, raking of leaves, weeding of the vegetable and herb garden - as part of nature lessons, educational hours;

Planned results: There will be an improvement in the environment through increased energy efficiency of the building, lower emissions of harmful gases into the atmosphere and plantings. The facility will pay less energy bills. There will be an improvement in student safety. Part of the environmental education activities will be implemented in the field, with pupils tending a garden, harvesting crops and bringing them to the kitchen to eat together. Pupils will also be made aware of the importance of protecting nature, especially protected species listed as natural monuments.

The initiative "At Primary School No. 26 we save energy and therefore we have a green planet" of the Public Elementary School No. 26 in Radom is implemented as part of the project "Local ecological civic initiatives - together for the environment" of the Foundation for the Development of Polish Agriculture and financed by the National Fund for Environmental Protection and Water Management.

RESULTS OF PROJECT IMPLEMENTATION

As part of the project, the electrical installation including lamps was replaced on the premises of Public Primary School No. 26 in Radom.

A school garden was created: the land was prepared, the area was fenced with mesh and plants and herbs were planted. As part of technology lessons in classes III-VI in May and June, vegetables were harvested by pupils and then used to prepare meals (salads, salads). Six lesson modules of 90 minutes each took place. Fifty-seven pupils took part in the activities.

On 01/06/2016, pupils in grades I-III prepared meals using, among other things, products from the school garden. The event combined with the Children's Day Picnic entitled "Breakfast gives power" was attended by 49 pupils and their parents.

Nameplates with the names of the trees were made - 15 pieces , which were placed in the school grounds. As part of the activities in classes I-III, a nature lesson was held on 25/05/2016 together with a walk in the school park with a lecture by the teacher on the various tree species. The topic was identifying them by their bark and leaves. Thanks to the mounted nameplates, the pupils learned the Polish and Latin names of the trees. The park will in future be used by pupils from other schools to conduct nature lessons.
