Initiative: "Replacement of lighting with LEDs in school corridors, classrooms and lighting of the school playground and educational garden in the school square".
Originator: Regional Cultural and Educational Association "Kornel"
Location: Borki Wyrki, School complex
Implementation date: 10/2015-03/2016
Description of the encountered problem: The teaching buildings of the School Complex in Borki Wyrki had outdated and high-cost generating lighting. The lighting of the school playing field was also inadequate.

Lighting before replacement
Activities:
- replacement of light points in school corridors, classrooms and the school playground;
- preparation of an educational garden with signs describing protected plants in Poland;
- creation of alleys to allow movement through the garden along didactic paths;
- workshops in the didactic garden for pupils, teachers and parents on ecological issues, with particular attention to reducingCO2 emissions into the atmosphere and the consumption of energy resources;
- presentations made by students on the benefits for people and the environment of saving energy and protecting nature.
Planned results: Thanks to the initiative, 30 light points were replaced, thus reducing energy consumption and carbon dioxide emissions into the atmosphere. The activities carried out will raise participants' awareness of the human impact on the environment. The replaced lighting is free of harmful substances (mercury, lead) and reduces electricity costs.

Lighting after replacement
The initiative "Replacing the lighting in school corridors, classrooms and the school playground and educational garden in the school yard with LEDs", an idea by the Regional Cultural and Educational Association "KornelKornel" was implemented as part of the project "Local ecological civic initiatives - together for the environment" of the Foundation for the Development of Polish Agriculture and financed by the National Fund for Environmental Protection and Water Management.
RESULTS OF PROJECT IMPLEMENTATION
As part of the project, lighting was replaced in 33 light points located in school corridors and four classrooms. The old fluorescent lamps were replaced with LED lighting.
Energy efficiency and energy saving classes were held at the school.
A talk on the environmental impact of energy saving was held at the termly meeting with parents.
An environmental workshop was held in the educational garden for pupils, teachers and parents. Issues related to reducing CO2 emissions into the atmosphere and reducing the consumption of energy resources were discussed, using LED bulbs and waste segregation as examples. The workshop contributed to raising the environmental awareness of the participants.
Teachers and parents landscaped the school garden, drawing up signs describing protected plants in Poland and making pathways to move around the garden.
Pupils made a multimedia presentation on the benefits for people and the environment of saving energy and protecting nature. Below is a link to the presentation.
