Initiative: "Following the light".
Originator: Parents' Council at the Special School and Educational Centre in Stok Lacki
Location: Stok Lacki, School and Educational Centre
Implementation date: 12/2015-03/2016
Description of the problem encountered: The Centre in Stok Lacki is a didactic, educational and care facility for children with moderate, severe and profound mental disabilities and various conjunctures including autism. The Centre has 90 pupils and 67 staff members working for them. Pupils do not have 'traditional' subjects; they are taught about ecology as part of their environmental functioning classes. The existing lighting in the school corridor, which is based on traditional 2 x 36W fluorescent lamps, regularly overheats due to the long daily operating time, with the result that the lamp shades break and have to be replaced. In addition, the cost of energy charges is high.
Action:
- Replacement of lighting in corridors in the School and Education Centre building activated by motion sensors;
- production of an educational board "From incandescent bulb to LED lamp" for the pupils of the facility.
Results: Motion sensor-activated LED lighting will reduce electricity consumption. The new installation in the main building of the centre, which is visited every week by a large number of pupils, parents and teachers, will make it possible to disseminate a simple idea that is easy to understand even for pupils with disabilities: "When I go, the light goes on, when I leave, the light goes off."The installation will work automatically, but it will contribute to the development of a very important energy-saving habit that can be applied at home by pupils - when the light is not needed, it must be switched off.
PROJECT RESULTS
As part of the project, the lighting in the upper corridor of the palace building was modernised. The old fluorescent lamps were replaced by LED lighting activated by movement sensors.
In addition, for a better understanding of the problem, an educational display board was placed in the corridor, "From incandescent bulb to LED lamp.
SOWS wards and carers, as well as parents, benefit from the improved quality of light, which increases the energy efficiency of the building.
