Initiative: "Development of the didactic-dendrological garden and the alpine garden at Wadlewo Primary School by creating a nature trail".
Originator: Genowefa Bolarczyk
Location: Mikołaj Arciszewski Primary School in Wadlewo
Implementation date: 09/2015-06/2016
Description of the problem encountered: The conversion of the area of the school's allotment into a didactic-dendrological garden and alpinarium has helped to improve the image of the area, but there is still a need to increase the biodiversity of the area and raise the nature awareness of the pupils and residents of Wadlewo.
Activities:
- Preparation of an educational-nature path;
- Site preparation;
- environmental forum for 140 school pupils and 30 pupils from neighbouring schools and 20 local residents;
- nature knowledge competition;
- picnic for residents and pupils of Wadlewo Primary School;
- use of the path for permanent educational activities.
Results: Pupils will gain knowledge about the garden, the alpine garden and the flower meadow and the plants and animals that live there; they will gain manual skills and learn about plant care. Environmental awareness will be raised among the local community. Information boards will provide visitors to the path with information about the species of trees, shrubs, plants in the alpine gardens and flower meadows, their inhabitants and the benefits of using these habitats. There will also be an increase in the number of plant species in the garden, woodland, alpine garden and meadow. The project is expected to contribute to changing the principles of green space maintenance in Wadlewo.
The initiative 'Development of the didactic-dendrological garden and alpine garden at the Wadlewo Primary School through the installation of an educational-natural path' of the Mikołaj Arciszewski Primary School in Wadlewo. Mikołaj Arciszewski Primary School in Wadlewo is realised as part of the project "Local ecological civic initiatives - together for the environment" of the Foundation for the Development of Polish Agriculture and financed by the National Fund for Environmental Protection and Water Management.
RESULTS OF PROJECT IMPLEMENTATION
As part of the project, materials were purchased to equip the didactic and dendrological garden and the alpinarium.
The area was prepared by the local community, school employees and members of the LOP circle. New seedlings were planted and information boards with plant species descriptions were placed.
A plaque was created with information about the weather observatory and its equipment, which was also purchased as part of the project. The meteorological cage was equipped with elements for measuring pressure and wind strength, for example.
The third board describes the horizontal sundial, which is a beautiful architectural feature.
A garden gazebo was also purchased and will be used for the numerous events organised.
A cross-section of the soil profile was also created and a flower meadow was planted.
Thanks to the initiative, the garden, as well as the pond and alpine garden, and the entire area around the school have been enriched with numerous and interesting plant species, trees, shrubs and perennials. The renovated and tended garden has become a showcase for the school and the whole village, and a meeting place for local residents.
